Ah, this is simply one of the best laptops i’ve ever had the pleasure of using. So what if it costs 10 billion dollars in apple tax, because its worth every goddamned penny.

pros:

-looks VERY good, possibly one of the best looking laptops ever made
-you can choose from a matte or a “go fuck yourself and go to hell if you choose this option asshole because i like to see my reflection in the screen and i really hate to use my laptop outside when its sunny out and i like to see fake/”vivid” colors instead of the real and natural ones” glossy screen
-everything basically comes standard in terms of specs (cpu, gpu, hard drive, memory, etc), and they are all high-end specs too, like wireless N, gigabit ethernet, webcam, etc.
-backlit keyboard (automatically turns on when it gets dark!)
-firewire 800 and 6 pin 400 ports
-full size dvi-d
-ilife 2008 is included
-slot load dvd-rw drive
-handy apple remote (front row is included!)
-free upgrade to osx 10.5 leopard (if you bought it in late 2007)
-lightweight for a 15.4″ notebook
-one inch thin
-natively can install windows xp or vista right out of the box (legal/illegal copy of windows is required)
-magsafe power connector (no more tripping over cords and laptops falling)
-very small power brick
-resale value is VERY high, even after years of owning it
-OSX in general
-it just fucking works, no need to wipe/reinstall when you get it…means no bloatware at all
-if you buy applecare (extended warranty), EVERYTHING is covered for 3 years
-people WILL stop and look at you and your laptop, because it looks good and they probably havent seen it before and/or got intrigued by it. lolol

cons:

-outrageously expensive compared to other laptops of its class
-only two usb 2.0 ports (most laptops have 3 or more nowadays)
-pricey extras and add-ons if you do BTO (built to order/custom)
-gets hot WAY too quickly (too thin, not enough room to dissipate heat, and its aluminum!)
-fans spin up even if you are just doing something simple on it, like watching youtube
-difficult to access hard drive
-swapping/upgrading the hard drive voids the warranty
-doesnt support ddr2-800 memory, even though the cpu does
-easy to scratch
-the only reason people buy the pro over the regular macbook is because of the better gpu, high resolution screen, firewire 800, or the expresscard slot.
-some people just buy the laptop to use windows on it (which is true!)
-people wont see the reason of why the macbook pro is better than the regular macbook, other than a “bigger screen”.
-will get laughed at for spending $1999 on a laptop that a $1000 or less laptop can do.
conclusion:

even though this is last years model, i personally think that its the best laptop apple has ever produced, especially since the price that these go for are so low now. if you are in the market for a cheap macbook pro, definitely consider the old models, as they are the best value.

rating: 9.5/10

Thanks to TechRestore and Google Images for the image…sorry if i stole it – i’m only using it for anger purposes.

I hate the new machines because:

-motherfucking GLOSSY screens only. i dont think so. a HUGE reason why i got the old macbook pro is because it offered a matte option, not fucking glossy. i have SO much hatred against glossy…i refuse to own a machine that uses a glossy display.

-the black casing/border around the display. im sorry, but that looks so cheap and completely unprofessional. what the FUCK apple this is supposed to be the macbook PRO not the fucking regular macbook. unfortunately, this is the way apple is going (or went with in the case of the imacs and macbook airs, as well as their cinema displays now) – glass and aluminum.

-apple decides to be secretive about the mbp. the weight actually went UP from last years model…isnt apple all about reducing the footprint? actually the laptop got deeper, wider, and a bit heavier. the battery has gone down from 60Whr to 50Whr (i guess its offset to the fact that it has a overall lower power consumption, etc), and eliminating firewire 400. why? a LOT more people used firewire 400 over 800 (yes i realize there is an adapter or a straight up 9 pin to 6/4 pin firewire but…thats just another cable you need).

- black keys. im not sure how i feel about them, because they are the new mba/mb keys…at least they are backlit…oh wait the high end macbook has backlit keys as well. fuckers.

-apple decides to upgrade the regular macbooks (specs and looks) and make it more in-line with the pro. im sorry, but isnt the macbook supposed to be just a cheapo-consumer version of the pro WITHOUT some of the pro features? aside from looks, the macbook also gained a MUCH better gpu AND the backlit keyboard, so really, the only thing now that apple did to differentiate the macbooks from the macbook pros is just…firewire. yes, the macbooks do NOT have firewire anymore, while the macbook pro does. im sorry apple, thats just being absolutely stupid. MANY MANY people use the firewire (including my dad when he had his black macbook) port on it. idiotic move.

-trackpad. okay its glass, thats nice and all, but…4 finger gestures? really apple? 4 fucking finger gestures? you guys should have just made a 20 fingered gesture, oh wait you cant…i do have a 1 finger gesture for you and its a big FUCK you.

-apple has also reduced the student discounts as well. originally, the mbp is 1999 and 2499, and with the student discount, it turns to 1799 and 2299. thats all fine, but now the “new” discount makes the mbp 1899 and 2399…for what? its not like the specs are anything thats groundbreaking – we’ve all seen them in other laptops, so what gives apple? and what the hell about selling the old plastic white macbook with a slightly faster processor for 999 and selling the “new” macbooks for 1299 and 1599? cheapasses.

bottom line is that apple is playing the microsoft game here. they introduce “new” products, but secretly omit features and do things that upset its pro customers (think vista, and its fucking 6-7 versions). they are catering more and more to consumers and just blatantly ignoring its pro customers (getting rid of the matte option, omitting firewire on the macbook). phil schiller clearly sums up why apple is so…fucking arrogant and stupid:

Q: Concern about the glossy screens. Are you going to offer another option?
A: Steve Jobs: We’re going all glass — we won’t offer another version. Phil: You offset the reflection by the brightness, and consumers love it. One of the great things about a notebook is you can turn it however you want!

turn it however you want? what the hell does that mean? its going to be fucking reflective ANY fucking way you put it. consumers love to turn down the brightness to offset the reflection? then what was the point of the LED screen? god i hate that comment. it pisses me off everytime i read it.

since this is the direction that apple is heading towards with all of their products, meaning catering to consumers and forgetting about the “pro” users, than they can go to hell for all i care. that refurb old-gen macbook pro is looking better and better..

at least they make good music players and a good o/s.
